Hosting
The website is hosted on GitHub Pages by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, GitHub processes your IP address, the date and time, the requested page, the referring page and your browser's user agent to deliver the page and to protect its servers. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). See GitHub's privacy statement.
The header of each page shows the number of stars and forks of the GitHub repository. Your browser loads these numbers from api.github.com, so GitHub receives your IP address.
Fonts, scripts and most images are served from this website itself, not from third-party servers.
Consent message and cookie settings
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a consent message from Google (Google's certified consent management platform, IAB Transparency and Consent Framework). It asks whether Google may use cookies and process data for advertising and statistics. Your choice is stored in a cookie on your device, so the message isn't shown again on every page. Storing this choice is necessary to meet the consent requirements of the GDPR and § 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021 (TKG 2021).
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawal doesn't affect the lawfulness of processing before it.
Google AdSense
The website shows advertising from Google AdSense, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. The AdSense script loads on every page and receives your IP address and information about the page you're viewing.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, what Google does depends on your choice in the consent message:
- Consent to storage and personalised ads: Google may store and read cookies and similar identifiers on your device and show ads based on your interests (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165(3) TKG 2021).
- Consent to storage, but not to personalised ads: Google shows non-personalised ads, chosen by the page content and your coarse location. They still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention, which is why they also depend on your consent to storage.
- No consent to storage: no ads are shown. The AdSense script still loads, because it shows the consent message and checks your choice, so Google receives your IP address.
Outside these regions, Google shows ads, including personalised ads, without asking. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in financing the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); you can object at any time, for example in Google's ad settings.
Whatever you choose, the ad script may set the cookie __eoi, which Google lists as a security cookie used to detect fraud and abuse.
Google acts as an independent controller for its advertising services. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, to understand which pages are read and how visitors find them.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics loads only after you consent to statistics in the consent message (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165(3) TKG 2021). If you withdraw consent, Analytics stops and its cookies are deleted.
- Outside these regions, Google Analytics loads without asking. The legal basis there is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); Google doesn't store IP addresses, event data is kept for two months (see below), and you can object at any time, for example with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Google Analytics sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID>, which store a random identifier for up to two years.
It processes the pages you visit, the time spent, the referring website, your device type, browser, operating system and approximate location.
Google Analytics 4 doesn't store IP addresses. Google uses them to derive the approximate location and for basic tasks such as spam detection and routing, and then discards them.
We keep event data in Google Analytics for two months; each new visit restarts this period for your random identifier. The setting doesn't apply to standard aggregated reports, which contain no data about individual visitors.
Google Analytics is linked to our AdSense account to report earnings per page.
Google signals is enabled: if you're signed in to a Google account and have allowed ad personalisation there, Google may connect the visit to your account for reports across devices. You can turn this off in your Google account settings.
Amazon affiliate links
Links to Amazon on this website are affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you follow such a link, Amazon sets a cookie in your browser that records where you came from, so the commission can be attributed. Amazon processes this as its own controller; we only receive anonymous reports of sales and clicks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in financing the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). See the privacy notices of Amazon.de and Amazon.com.
Gumroad
The 3D printing files for Remo are sold through Gumroad, Inc., San Francisco, USA. Pages with a Gumroad button (the home page, Remo Description, 3D Printing and Insiders) load a script from gumroad.com that shows the Gumroad checkout. Gumroad receives your IP address when such a page loads. If you buy, Gumroad processes the purchase and your payment and e-mail address as its own controller; we receive your e-mail address and the order details. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in selling the files and, for a purchase, the performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). See Gumroad's privacy policy.
Videos and the 3D model viewer
Some pages embed videos from YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, in its privacy-enhanced mode youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo (Vimeo.com, Inc., USA), and a 3D model viewer from Autodesk (Autodesk, Inc., USA). They don't load with the page. Each one shows a notice and a Load video or Load 3D model button instead. After you click, your browser connects to the provider, which receives your IP address and the page address and may store cookies or similar data on your device (for Vimeo we request "do not track"). The legal basis is your consent by clicking (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 165(3) TKG 2021). See the privacy policies of Google, Vimeo and Autodesk.
Comments (giscus)
Comments on this website are discussions in the public GitHub repository ros-mobile-robots/diffbot, shown with giscus. Nothing loads until you click Show comments. After the click, your browser loads giscus from giscus.app and the discussion from GitHub, which receive your IP address. giscus.app is run by the independent giscus project, which says it doesn't collect any data; it is hosted by Vercel, Inc., USA. To comment you sign in with your GitHub account; your comment and GitHub username are then public on GitHub. The legal basis is your consent by clicking (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). See giscus's privacy policy and GitHub's privacy statement.
Storage in your browser
The website stores your colour scheme (light or dark) in your browser's local storage. This stays on your device, is not sent to us and is necessary for the features you use (§ 165(3) TKG 2021).
If you write to us by e-mail, we process your address and message to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). E-mails to fjp.at addresses are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) to our mailbox. We delete messages when they're no longer needed, unless legal retention periods apply.
Transfers to the United States
Google, GitHub (Microsoft), Amazon and Cloudflare may process data in the USA. They are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has found to provide an adequate level of protection (Art. 45 GDPR). Gumroad transfers data to the USA on the basis of the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as described in its privacy policy. Vimeo, Autodesk and Vercel (which hosts giscus.app) state that they are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Vimeo, Autodesk, Vercel); you can check each in the Data Privacy Framework list. Their content loads only after you click.
Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with the Cookie settings link, with effect for the future. To exercise your rights, write to ros@fjp.at.
You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria this is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at, www.dsb.gv.at.
